Thanksgiving 2019 will forever go down in the books to be one like no other. This past thanksgiving, I had the wondrous opportunity of spending the long weekend in New York City with my close friend Alana. Evidently, we had a fairly touristy thanksgiving, but it was relaxing all the same.
As the holiday season nears its peak, I'd like to look back at the grand beginning this holiday season has had. Thanksgiving break is not nearly as long and stretched out as winter break, although I feel that the 3 days spent exploring and eating good food with Alana were more like 3 weeks, and they will forever be cherished.
I have so many words to describe this past thanksgiving. The stories and intricacies of each day cannot be described as dull, but something much more extravagant. I could describe it as unforgettable. Or maybe even delicious. But I think this song steals the words right out of my mouth...
On the first day of thanksgiving break, NYC gave to me...
A trip into Manhattan,
A tofu BLT from Blossom on Columbus Ave,
A journey through a rainstorm,
A sight of Macy's float inflation,
A reunion with my best friend,
And almost getting lost... but not yet.
On the second day of thanksgiving break, NYC gave to me...
Another trip to Manhattan,
A large & delicious vegan feast,
A few snapshots of Washington Square Park,
A chaotic yet amazing side street view of the parade,
A "little" hard kombucha,
And almost getting lost, but not yet...
On the third day of thanksgiving break, NYC gave to me...
A trip to Williamsburg, Brooklyn
A breakfast of champs at Champs Diner (so good),
A great amount of street art,
A visit to a tarot card reader,
A stop at Fleur Noire tattoo parlor,
And eventually getting lost on the subway :)
Hey, I bet you sang that in your head...
From wednesday until friday, our days were filled to the brim with exploring various shops and eating large quantities of vegan food. Although, by the end of it all I broke my streak of not getting lost in NYC this thanksgiving... we were able to chuckle about it. My favorite part of it all was being able to truly appreciate the company I was able to spent this thanksgiving with.
Thanksgiving is a time of reflection and gratitude. This thanksgiving I was absolutely able to reflect on the times long ago when me and my friend Alana were merely acquaintances. It's incredible to look back on the times when we thought we were at our peak and to realize that our friendship can only grow stronger as time continues to pass.
If I were ever able to spend thanksgiving in New York City again, I know it would be amazing as long as it is spent in good company--just as this past thanksgiving. As the decade comes to a close, I'm nostalgic of all the joys that these years have brought me. Thanks to family and friends, I can expect this upcoming decade to be just as warm and joyous.
